Alexia Mellor, PhD is a holistic canine nutrition consultant with a special interest in complex and chronic conditions, including gastrointestinal and kidney health. She takes a root-cause, whole-dog approach, exploring nutrition alongside environment, stress, and the mind–body connection to support lasting vitality.
Her journey into this work began when her own dog, Lucky, developed severe gastrointestinal and kidney challenges. Navigating complicated, and often conflicting, advice led her to move beyond symptom management and toward a more integrative, systems-based understanding of canine health.
With a doctorate in participatory research and systems thinking alongside her multiple certifications in canine nutrition, she brings analytical depth and a whole-systems perspective to complex cases. She believes every dog is an individual and supports guardians in making clear, confident, and sustainable choices that honour both the science and the lived experience of their dog.
She is also the host of the popular Mystic Dog Mama podcast, where she explores the deeper dimensions of canine wellbeing and the human–animal bond.
Alexia is currently contributing to My Pet Nutritionist’s new education platform.
